Route 4 follows a sea rescue ship for more than 15 months and the pain and agony of the people on their journey. Route 4, the namesake of this documentary, serves as the central Mediterranean route — the deadliest escape route in the world. In the documentary, refugees tell their story and paint the picture of a horrible journey, enabling the viewer to perceive the scope of the humanitarian crisis and conflict in Africa and Europe. Life Jacket takes you on a journey with refugees fleeing their war-torn country and persecution, as they request their simple human rights to live in better conditions. While trusting a simple life jacket to keep them safe while crossing the Aegean Sea to reach the Island of Lesvos, they risk their lives in the hopes of reaching a better and safer place not knowing that they will end up in Camp Moria — a place that they say is worse than living in a war zone. While the refugees live in a survival mode on the island of Lesvos, Life Jacket takes a look at the effective role of education in the healing process and in equipping the refugees, young and old, to a better future that awaits them and getting their legal status. At least 82.4 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes. Among them are nearly 26.4 million refugees, around half of whom are under the age of 18. There are also millions of stateless people, who have been denied a nationality and lack access to basic rights such as education, health care, employment, and the freedom of movement. At a time when 1 in every 95 people on earth has fled their home as a result of conflict or persecution, understanding the refugee crisis has become more important than ever. Writing to Reach You explores the lives of 4 refugees living and trying to find new lives in South Korea. The 4 refugees, who come from very different backgrounds and countries, share their lives before and after coming to Korea in search of a better place in which to live. Writing to Reach You

Remember Me tells the story of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to the Boko Haram conflict in North-East Nigeria. The refugees face abuse, exploitation, and discrimination to meet their basic needs and deal with anxiety about their future. Women and children represent over 75 percent of the displaced population and are particularly vulnerable when in need of food, water, shelter, and personal and menstrual hygiene items.&nbsp; Despite years of humanitarian assistance, they continue to depend on infrequent relief distributions to meet their daily needs and are unable to become self-reliant, which affects their state of mind, self-esteem, and ability to rebuild their lives with dignity. In addition to highlighting their experiences, Remember Me proffers solutions that combine psychosocial and vocational skills support to achieve self-reliance, which serves as a bridge to close the transition gap from aid-dependence to sustainable solutions. This is the true story of an Iraqi male college student and a female rape victim from Syria, who come across each other in Istanbul. While the Iraqi guy is trying to get away from Istanbul as soon as possible in order to continue his education in Italy and meet his lover over there, the only thing that the woman wants is to stay alive and feel secure.

Refuge

The Pedacito de la Tierra (A Little Piece of Home) weaves together humanitarian, migrant and refugee, food, and sustainability issues from around the world. The film offers stories of hope, growth and community to raise awareness and support for the efforts of global humanitarian organizations, Alight, and Burners Without Borders.&nbsp; Set in a temporary shelter in the U.S./Mexico border town of Nogales, Mexico, the film shares a touching, enlightening story of the power of togetherness in the face of strife and hardship. As a community of unsettled migrants seeking asylum in the United States, these individuals show the true essence of perseverance and faith in one another to create a better life in their temporary shelters. This tale of innovation and inspiration is told in an effort to initiate an avalanche of constructive thought, discourse and action, and to leave a lasting social impact that increases public awareness and incites change in policy. Pedacito de la Tierra

The Ways of Being Home explores the immigrant experience in the company of the Mexican community living in Northfield, a semi-rural town in southern Minnesota. Most members of this immigrant community trace their roots back to Maltrata, a small agricultural municipality nestled in the mountains of the state of Veracruz. Taking a poetic approach that incorporates a multiplicity of voices, the film is accented by brief animated sequences and immersive observational passages that draw attention to the geographical and emotional displacement endured by community members.&nbsp; Filmed over the course of the Trump presidency, Ways of Being Home attests to the resilience, ingenuity, and fierce determination of displaced people as they craft a life and a home away from home. Ways of Being Home ~ Between Northfield & Maltrata

Due to the outreach efforts and charisma of His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet, the world has learned of and largely sympathized with the plight of the Tibetan people, whose land was seized some 60 years ago by the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese outlawed the country’s language, culture, and religion, and continue to oppress, torture, and kill Tibetans. To keep Tibetan traditions and hope alive, the Dalai Lama established the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) in the Himalayan mountains of India.&nbsp; Others Before Self offers a brief, but complete portrait of the TCV, where even the youngest residents speak for themselves and their feelings about the Chinese government (not the people). These children give voice to their hope, or lack thereof, of being able to see Tibet and reclaim it for the Tibetan people.&nbsp; In showing a group of children working together and developing their minds and hearts, Others Before Self has painted an effective portrait of how we could create a more peaceful and pleasant world community. Others Before Self

Every night, Josue has a nightmare of a mysterious evil man threatening to kill him if he doesn’t — “go home.” Every day in the real world, he deals with racism and anti-immigrant sentiment from his schoolmates, teachers, and strangers. Josue escapes his nightmares and frustrations by drawing a comic featuring a young LatinX superhero who defeats an angry villain made of ice. To his cousin and best friend, Anita, Josue confides that in his dreams he has light powers that could fight back against the angry villain. If Josue could only stand up to him, he’s sure the nightmares would stop. But the next night, he’s still too afraid to fight back.
