The Young Audience program is dedicated to Nordic-Baltic films that approach an older children segment, from nine and up. Four film compete in this competition and are contenders to get the best award for children’s film, judged by the local children’s jury. Four diverse stories whit a different visual approach, that takes the perspective of a younger audience into more sensitive themes and intimate sphere. Age limit: 6

Ten-year-old Eden feels forgotten by and invisible to her parents, who often quarrel or are busy with other things. To escape the boredom and loneliness, Eden has created a secret escape in the garden, where she lies on a blanket and eats cookies. One day something very peculiar happens. Eden has constructed a spyglass, using two empty toilet paper rolls, which she soon understands is magical. Malin Erixon’s previous films have been screened at film festivals all over the world, for example at the Sundance Film Festival, Palm Springs International ShortFest, Ottawa International Animation Festival, Nordisk Panorama, and Stockholm International Film Festival, as well as at places like Studion at the Modern Museum of Art in Stockholm and Liljevalchs Art Gallery. She has received several nominations and awards for her work. For instance, in 2015 she was nominated for a Swedish Film Academy Award, Guldbagge, and in 2022 she received the Liljevalchs and San Michele Foundation scholarship. Previous films include Benjamin's Flowers (2012), But You Are a Dog (2014) and Sleep Incidents (2016) as well as the documentary short series "THE ASSEMBLY - interviews from the middle of everything" (2020).

The Spyglass

The film's story is based on the Slavic folktale, which has been told for ages from the peasant's point of view. The film shows the story from an underground angle, giving an overview of what really happened while peasants were engaged in the cultivation of vegetables. And about property, collaboration, and betrayal. Piret Sigus (born 1976 ) is an independent animation artist and director. Graduated Academia Grata department of Estonian Academy of Arts in 2004. She has been working in Nukufilm studio. She is a founder and owner of the cut-out animation studio Animailm. Author of animated music videos for punk band Kurjam.Silja Saarepuu (born 1973) Artist and filmmaker. Graduated Estonian Academy of Arts in 2004. Has been teaching drawing and welding at the Estonian Academy of Arts, and has been curating and designing exhibitions. A freelance artist working in the field of interdisciplinary arts creating and using stories of little people living on Earth and rolling stones on fields of different realities.

Tommy Vad Funderud & Markus Vad Flaaten started making Flash cartoons on their dad’s computer when they were 7. Inspired by the thriving Newgrounds community and the Pixar golden age of the 2000s, they started doing freelance work at the age of 13, which later led to character design work for a Mexican animation studio which later led to directing Space Chickens in Space for Disney, which lead to making 10 short films about our emotions with the wonderful Norwegian producer and scriptwriter, Joakim Skavern.

Feels Like - Love

Little Pille goes to find her father’s missing socks under the bed, to a fantastical world of forgotten things. There she finds that Dad’s socks have laid an egg! Now Pille must protect the socks from danger until the tiny egg can hatch. Oskar Lehemaa is a live-action and animation director from Estonia. His horror short film Bad Hair was selected to over 50 festivals, including Sundance, and won prizes at Fantasia, Scream Fest, and Fantastic Fest, among others. In 2019 Oskar co-wrote and co-directed the feature-length stop motion animation The Old Man Movie, which has played over 30 festivals worldwide. Oskar studied audiovisual media at the Baltic Film and Media School and has directed commercials in Estonia since 2010.

The Mystery of Missing Socks

A foolish man leaves his family on the shore and travels through humanity's mistakes on a rickety paddle boat. Samppa Kukkonen (born 1979) is an animation director living and working in the Turku region in Finland. He is one of the founding partners and the artistic director of animation studio Pyjama Films. With a career beginning in the early 2000s, Kukkonen has worked on animated short films, commercials, and music videos; his most notable works include music videos Blackened Call (2018) and Cathedrals of Mourning (2019) for the metal band Belzebubs, commissioned by Century Media,11x2 min shorts for the Yellow Yeti animated series by Gigglebug Entertainment and Disney EMEA. He’s also one of the founding members of the Turun Anikistit collective, which has produced several award-winning collaborative films, including English Lessons (2008) and Wormhole (2016). Kukkonen is currently working as an episodic director for the Nickelodeon-commissioned kid’s series Super Duper Bunny League, produced by Gigglebug Entertainment.

Paddle Boat

It is Peter’s first summer in the countryside. All seems to be going well until the innkeeper's dead grandfather tries to eat him. Mikk Mägi (born 1987 in Tallinn, Estonia) is an Estonian animator and director. He started his animation studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2010. He founded the animation studio BOP! in the year 2011, where he works until this day. He has become famous with the feature film The Old Man Movie, which has been successfully released in Estonia and worldwide.

The Photo That Came to Life

The schools are in lockdown due to corona, and Lilly, age 10, must stay at home and take care of her drunk mother. When the bad girl from class sees what’s going on at home, Lilly thinks her secret is in danger but sometimes help can come from where you least expect it. Endre Lund Eriksen is the director and producer of the animated short Home Office, produced by Fabelfjord, Tromsø. He has written the screenplay for two feature films as well as several shorts, among them Dunder (2016). He is also an award-winning author of mainly children and young adult books. Many of his books have been translated to other languages, such as "The summer my dad turned gay" and "Pitbull-Terje runs amok".
