Acutely attuned to the threatening whispers of the adult world, two young siblings find refuge in a fluid space of their own making, determined to protect their entwined existence at all cost.

In this dark and startling film, Ashmita Guha Neogi throws us into the insular world of child play, endlessly unpredictable and elusive, and bursting with intense emotion, fierce imagination, and a brooding sense of danger. With bold, sensual imagery and impeccable directorial dexterity she choreographs a breathtaking dance, where primal impulses are let loose, fears are formidably conquered, and unspoken secrets are carried on to eternity.

Winner of the Grand Prix at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation competition, CATDOG is Neogi’s graduate thesis film produced at the Film and Television Institute of India.

DIRECTOR

Ashmita Guha Neogi graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India. Her work investigates taboos and the discomforting realm of human relationships, with narratives that negotiate the blurred space between the real and the surreal. Her training as a dancer seeps into her directorial style across all media projects. BLOW UP DOLL, the music video she directed for the band Perfect Strangers was invited in competition at the 2019 Berlin Short Film Festival. She is currently developing the script for a short film with the working title OFF SEASON.
