ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Alain Delannoy is a Canadian independent filmmaker. His animated short films have screened internationally at such festivals as Tribeca, the Palm Springs Shortfest, Dok Leipzig, the MoMA Doc Fortnight and the Hiroshima Animation Festival. His previous film, “The Talk: True Stories About the Birds &amp; the Bees,” won several awards including the prize for Best Animation at the Warsaw Film Festival.

ABOUT THE FILM: Despite the world’s disasters, an artist insists on playing.ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Anna Samo was born in Moscow, studied animation at HFF Konrad Wolf in Potsdam and is currently based in New York. As an independent filmmaker she uses a variety of analog animation techniques to create emotional and poetic work. Her most recent films OBON, The Opposites Game and Conversations with a Whale were screened and awarded at film festivals around the world. Anna is also one the co-founders (together with Lisa LaBracio and Andy London) of Animation Speak/Easy a bi-monthly screening and discussion series in Brooklyn, New York celebrating the art of animation.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Patrick Smith is known for his metaphorical hand drawn short films, as well as his experimental stop motion films. Smith is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of the New York Foundation of the Arts.

ABOUT THE FILM:An exploration of disability representation in Martin Scorsese’s 1978 concert film The Last Waltz, and a tribute to the one armed go go dancer. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Paula Stuttman is an artist working in painting, drawing and animation. Her work explores the realm of human experience. Subjects include disability, love (or lack of) familial bonds and humor. Her work in museum education with its emphasis on access, particularly in providing verbal descriptions to blind and low vision visitors, has influenced the performative aspect and the use of language in her time-based works. She is a part-time assistant professor at The New School where she teaches contemporary art and museum studies. Stuttman is represented by Good Naked Gallery (NYC).

ABOUT THE FILM:17-year-old Sean is in the middle of his college paperwork when the neighbors bring an odd babysitting situation. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Diane Catsburrow Linnet is a storyteller and animator, working with digital animation and creative writing to craft stories about people. Her nomadic nature has given her a history of 10 zip codes scattered across East Asia, Europe, and North America. Currently in Rochester, NY, she recently transitioned from grad student to faculty, and is devoting her hours to writing, animating, drawing silly cartoons, dabbling on learning yet more random new skills... and directing the Finger Lakes Virtual Museum project. In short, just making things!

The Babysitter

ABOUT THE FILM:Duckville is a dark fairy tale about a the duck village that, in order to get tourists, fakes a wild monster attack to increase fame and sympathy. Of course, things go haywire and a small duckling saves the day. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:﻿Bill Plympton is considered the King of Indie Animation, and is the first person to hand draw an entire animated feature film. In 1987, he was nominated for an Oscar® for his animated short&nbsp;Your Face. In 2005, Bill received another nomination, this time for his short&nbsp;Guard Dog.&nbsp;After producing many shorts that appeared on MTV and Spike and Mike's, he turned to feature films. Since 1991, he's made&nbsp;thirteen&nbsp;feature films. Eight of them –&nbsp;The Tune, Mondo Plympton, I Married A Strange Person, Mutant Aliens, Hair High, Idiots and Angels, Cheatin', Revengeance,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Slide&nbsp;– are all animated features.&nbsp;Plympton has also animated music videos for Madonna, Weird Al Yankovic, and Kanye West.

ABOUT THE FILM:Based on the story as it was passed down to her great grand-daughter, Susana Alimivna Jamaladinova, better known as popular Ukrainian singer Jamala, this animated short illustrates the plight of a single mother and her children during the Soviet purge of Crimean Tatars at the end of World War II. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Jeremiah Dickey has been creating fine animation for over 20 years, working both independently and with numerous studios in NYC and abroad. Jeremiah was a founding animation director at TED-Ed from its inception in 2012 until 2021, where he designed, directed and animated dozens of short films illuminating subjects from ancient mythology to cutting-edge science, and much in between. Prior work includes frequent collaboration with filmmaker Emily Hubley on a wide variety of independent films.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Notable recipient of the Storyteller Award (2004) from Ms. Lewis's 2nd Grade class, John Quinn is a recent Pratt grad,&nbsp;animator, and current artist-in-resident at the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony here in Woodstock. Originally from New Hampshire, John fell in love with the landscape of the Hudson Valley area and has returned after a prior residency earlier this summer. Experimentation plays a big role in his work. Trying out new visuals keeps animation fresh and enjoyable for him while also helping to tell his stories – often lately putting a comedic spin on themes such as self-reflection and redemption.

ABOUT THE FILM:In his “Notes to Self” project, Dustin Grella has written and then mailed himself a letter every day since April 13, 2001. The exercise has generated thousands of letters (and counting), which remain meticulously ordered and still sealed to this day. The slight variations in the project, a change of font, the physical location of the cancellation stamp, and of course what is written inside, are what keep it interesting. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Dustin Grella is an animator and documentary filmmaker whose work attempts to glean glimpses of colorful insight into the seemingly mundane. His films have screened at the Cannes Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and won the Walt Disney Award at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. His film Prayers for Peace screened at almost two hundred festivals worldwide and won over forty awards. He is currently in production of the Animation Hotline, a series of micro-animations where he uses crowd-sourced voicemail messages for content. ABOUT THE FILM:On a barren island, a creature discovers a mysterious object floating towards the shore. Placing it on its island, it feels a surge of joy, but soon realizes how dull its island truly is compared to neighboring islands. Eager to be like them, it starts to collect more objects to decorate the island. As its obsession grows, the situation starts to spiral out of control. Through a story showing the downfall of a character who got hyper-fixated on becoming like others without reflecting on oneself, this animation highlights and warns the danger of a sense of self-inferiority and mindlessly imitating others, that is pervasive in modern society. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Daye An is a versatile motion and graphic designer based in New York. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a specialization in motion design. Passionate about creating inspiring and meaningful visuals, Daye brings her designs to life through animation. Her diverse range of styles allows her to adapt to each project, effectively delivering its unique message. In addition to motion design, she has a keen interest in illustration and various design disciplines.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Pilar Newton got her start working on The Cartoon Network's Courage the Cowardly Dog, and on MTV's Daria. With her independent company PilarToons, LLC she has contributed work to companies such as Nickelodeon, Homer Learning, Sirius Thinking and Sesame Workshop. Pilar is currently finishing her independent horror short that she is excited for the world to see. She recently released Just Pilar, a darkly observant and hilarious autobiographical comic collection. She spends her free time listening to opera and doing pixel art. Pilar is based in Brooklyn, New York.

It's a cry for compassion, our need to resist the powerful forces that promote fear and hatred in order to divide us, while all that time, they are increasing their own wealth and power. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Candy Kugel, a longtime voting member of both AMPAS &amp; the TV Academy has made over 12 award-winning indy shorts acquired by The Museum of Modern Art Archives (NYC). For the past 40 years, with Buzzco Associates, she has created TV programming, educational films &amp; ads – most notably MTV’s initial launch, Talking About Sex for Planned Parenthood (Annecy Cristal), and WGBH’s Between the Lions (Emmy). Her independent 17-minute DVD It’s Still Me! has become a valuable resource for people with aphasia.

ABOUT THE FILM:Filmmaker Leah Shore asked 9-year-old Elina to pitch them a short film. Leah animated her idea. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Leah Shore is a queer, nonbinary, award-winning multimedia writer, director, and creative producer, known for their work across live action, 2D/3D animation, and more. Leah blends humor and drama with relatable stories, regardless of medium. Notable works include the Oscilloscope Labs short Launch (Best Visual Direction, Fantastic Fest 2022), the science documentary Extremophiles (1st Place, Imagine Science Film Festival), and Funeral (SXSW premiere). Leah's films have competed at Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW, and they’ve been featured in major outlets. Their work is showcased in a retrospective on The Criterion Channel, ranging from comedic to deranged.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Sean Pecknold is an independent animator, music video and film director from Seattle, Washington based in Los Angeles, California. His most recent animated film Featherweight has been nominated for a 2022 Annie Award and was selected as Cartoon Brew’s Short Pick Of The Day, a Vimeo Staff Pick, 1.4 Awards Shortlist, and featured on It’s Nice That, Booooooom, Shots, Little Black Book, Motionographer, Animation World Network, &amp; Animation Magazine. He recently directed and animated stop-motion for Song Exploder on Netflix as well as stop-motion for Worn Stories also on Netflix. He is preparing to direct his first feature length film.
