
ABOUT THE FILM:
Based on the story as it was passed down to her great grand-daughter, Susana Alimivna Jamaladinova, better known as popular Ukrainian singer Jamala, this animated short illustrates the plight of a single mother and her children during the Soviet purge of Crimean Tatars at the end of World War II.
ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:
Jeremiah Dickey has been creating fine animation for over 20 years, working both independently and with numerous studios in NYC and abroad. Jeremiah was a founding animation director at TED-Ed from its inception in 2012 until 2021, where he designed, directed and animated dozens of short films illuminating subjects from ancient mythology to cutting-edge science, and much in between. Prior work includes frequent collaboration with filmmaker Emily Hubley on a wide variety of independent films.
