Talented young street dancers from diverse neighbourhoods in Calgary take part in a program

that gives them the chance to become professional dancers and teachers. THE GATEWAY shows a pivotal moment in their lives, figuring out who they are and where they belong, and follows them on their emotional journeys of self-discovery through dance. It also tells the story of the program’s creator, Calgary hip-hop artist Tara Wilson, whose passion for dance and commitment to the positive values of hip-hop culture drive her to guide the youth to become not just elite-level dancers but also positive members of their communities.

Director Kamala Parel-Nuttall will be in attendance at the September 25 screening.

THE GATEWAY will be screened as a part of the SHORTS: ALBERTA SPIRIT package.
