Director's Statement
bee-roll is the culmination of two years of b-roll footage of bees taken with an iPhone and macro lens. During this time, I became fascinated with bees, how they lived, how they moved, how they survived, and how they died. In making this short film, I changed what was originally to be a documentary into a dramatic short with a young girl as the protagonist. It is in her youth and innocence juxtaposed with the bees that creates the connection between humans and nature. And it is in the reality of our daily lives that foretells a tragic end for all.
