Director Biography - Debbie Kwon

I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i, growing up I loved watching anything animated but when

I was younger there weren’t many options to see animations that had characters that looked like me.

Especially growing up, I resonated so strongly whenever I saw characters that actually did look like

me. My filmmaking style goes hand in hand with the cultures that I was brought up with, especially

my Korean heritage that was taught to me by my parents and my community. Being able to make

films that embrace all aspects of my culture is what I definitely take pride in the most.
