Director's Bio
‘Move Me’ AKA ‘Everything Everywhere All at Pups’ is a short 3 minute film made during the 48 hour film challenge run by Kino Sydney, Kino Kabaret. To produce the film I set out to film and animate a story on the theme of ‘FREE’ using the iPhone 13 Pro Max. It was an enjoyable experience and was the first time I used the phone to make a stop motion live action film and also the first time I’d used people as puppets.
The film was conceptualized and produced with Mist Leong in mind for the lead character. Mist is an actor, dancer and live performer based in Sydney. Working with Mist I wrote a script that was about some of my own journey of self acceptance which Mist heavily identified with, bringing moments of her own life story into the mix.
I have struggled with my gender identity through my life and I was immediately drawn to Mist at Kino. I pitched my rough concept to her and we both realised we wanted to make something playful about needing a sense of freedom as we move between our identities.
I wanted to convey that our own inner thoughts can be both a barrier to moving forwards in our lives but also a form of liberation when we gain control of them.
