I am Other, I am a monster. Your mirror & creation. You are our shadow, the shadow over all creation. You are the monster. Your individual & collective actions are the monstering. The monstering is, all the systems of your western world that prioritise some humans, your wants & greed above all other natural things. Your linear concepts of time and relationships are monstering us all in only one direction, all micro-plastics blinding our responsibility to protecting & saving our non-human kin.
Director's Statement & Bio
I am a Yugambeh-Bundjalung & Kannakan woman, living on Wodi Wodi-Dharawal Country. As an emerging artist with a disability, learning and determination underpin my approaches and my mentors are integral to the foundation of my practice.
There are enduring themes of identity, Indigeneity, entangled, complex relationships between humans and non-humans, failure and fragility in my work. These are contextualised within decolonisation frameworks, Indigenous cultural revitalisation, simultaneously responding to environmental crisis. Through performative, community workshops, video story-telling and performances, my practice priorities include, social engagement projects that build upon community capacity and collaborative solutions within challenging, complex issues.
My character, Sister GlitterNullius is conduit for provocation, investigation, confession and damantion. Rarely absolution. She is the post-traumatic, personification and representation of the hypocrisy dilemma that is the Anthropocene. Ancient and trashy, an ironic hypocite, she is an nun, imprisoned by her love-hate relationship with plastix, imprisoned by consumerism, capitalism, christianity and post- colonialism. Sister GlitterNullius’, DNA has been infected by micro-plastix and she’s morphing into a bird. Although she’s of Indigenous anscestory, we might hope she would at least, she’d become a native bird...No. She’s becoming a macaw... Can someone lend her a map?
We humans have created the multi-layered enmeshments and codependence of land, environment and our non-human kin with the capitalist world that damage the planet. Sister GlitterNullius’ role as a nun of the Anthropocene, a bridge, calls for Indigenous cultural revitalisation and the urgency of alliances and collaborations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous knowledges and technologies. numerous actions
simultaneously, locally and globally. Sister GlitterNullius, is wise and trashy, emapthetic and punishing, ancient and afraid. She is a conduit for addressing complex, challenging issues, with a license to be a master of none.Through humour, irony, fragility, damnation, and a pinch of sarcasm, GlitterNullius stands with the in- betweeners, the failures and the lost; just trying to navigate a greener decolonised path Home, to her Belonging place. Can someone give her directions or a map, please?
