In 2016, writer, director, and cinematographer Gabriel Kalim Mucci released his acclaimed short film Lunatique. Seven years in the making, Mucci's passion project was the first in a series of projects centered on a theme: the apocalypse.


In this conversation, Mucci provides insight into the catalyst for his debut short film, takes un into the making of Wasteland 3: Bison's Meat Delivery, speaks candidly about the process and challenges of being an indie filmmaker making VFX heavy projects, and provides a sneak peek at his latest project The Moons.

Gabriel Kalim Mucci

(Lunatique, Wasteland 3 - Bison's Meat Delivery, The Moons)


Gabriel Kalim Mucci is a Sao Paulo, Brazil, based director and cinematographer. He has worked for most of his career shooting commercials and music videos.


Gabriel has also directed three sci-fi short films:


- Lunatique (2016), a post-apocalyptic tale that has been screened in firms festivals around the world including Sitges (Spain), Screamfest (USA), Telluride Horror Show (USA), Fantasporto (Portugal), and Interfilm (Germany), winning a few awards along the way;

- Wasteland 3 - Bison's Meat Delivery, a promo short for the video game developed by Inxile Entertainment; and

- The Moons, a proof-of-concept for a TV show about a different kind of alien invasion.


Gabriel is represented by Wonder Street Management (USA).


Marina Antunes

Film Critic, Podcaster, Festival Director


Marina has been writing and discussing film for over 15 years, first on a personal blog followed by a decade long tenure on the now retired Row Three. In 2008, she joined the writing staff at Quiet Earth, becoming Editor-In-Chief in 2014, a role she still holds. Over the years, she has also produced and hosted a number of podcasts including Before the Dawn, a long-running podcast on the Twilight franchise, Girls on Pop, a podcast on film and popular entertainment from women’s perspective and After the Credits, bi-monthly film podcast with nearly 300 episodes.


Marina is a member of the Online Film Critics Society and the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, is the Vice President of the Vancouver ACM SIGGRAPH chapter and has served on juries for several film festivals including DOXA, St. Louis International Film Festival, and the Whistler Film Festival. She joined the Spark CG Society as Festival Director in 2014.
