This film was created by 4 students at St Clare's College: Poppy White, Jaya Flancbaum, Emily Burrows and Tahlia Griffiths. They said: "We created a short film to highlight the issue of Climate Change. We used a small globe as a metaphor for our Earth. Through our short film, we show how a small change can have a big impact. We enjoyed this project because we were able to express our creativity through film. We made some music ourselves through Garageband and used two free royalty-free songs."
Shot on iPhone 10.
Directors' Statement
Our group chose to base our movie “My Globe” on the issue of global warming and pollution as it is something that is a huge problem, and it’s only getting worse.Through our short film, we aim to create a society where everybody is treating our earth with care.
The main message that we have attempted to promote is how small things we do in our world can have a big impact, or how our choices are affecting our society, to even little islands on the ocean.
In our production, we demonstrate this by revealing that Emily's globe is very dirty, but after doing one single act of kindness (picking up a chip packet) her globe starts to get cleaner. This shows that her small change has a big impact and that it is not okay to pollute.
This problem of climate change and pollution has received a lot of recognition, but people are still not changing their habits. We believe if we could show it in a metaphorical way, it would actually get people to think about what they are doing and how their small actions can make a big difference.

At the beginning of term 1 this year, St Clare's year 8 students were given the challenge to create a movie that would shine a light on a social justice issue. This was a cross curricular project which covered the subjects English, Music and Religion.
We were given a schedule that included days to film and organise our project. We met many mentors in the film industry on these days, but the one that really inspired us was the presentation from ‘Pacific Calling Partnership’ on climate change. This was the social challenge that our team chose to focus on
There was a long process to ensure that our film fit the criteria. Our initial idea was not our last, as it took time to come up with a finalised idea that we all agreed on. From that point we got working; Poppy wrote the film script and storyboard, and the whole group contributed ideas to it. Once finalised we started the production and filming which starred sisters Emily and Zoe Burrows. Whilst Poppy directed and held the camera, Tahlia was constantly communicating ideas which greatly contributed to the film.
Throughout this process, Jaya was working hard on producing music for the fim. Not only in class lessons but in her lessons outside of school, she composed lots of great soundtracks! When we had shot all of our videos, we began the process of editing, in which Poppy stitched all the clips together, and added Jaya's wonderful music. This is when we got to see it all together, and through Emily and Zoe's acting, we were able to see the story come to life.
